In the name of good, schemers in history have perpetrated evil. Satan encouraged Eve to eat the forbidden fruit and promised the opening of her mind. Hitler killed 6 million Jews to finally solve his race problem. The Swiss authorities burned Rousseau’s The Social Contract because he argued against traditional views of religion. Marcos declared martial law, committed thousands of human rights violations and made kickbacks from World Bank loans to save this republic.

Today we are being mandated to take the Covid vaccines to promote and protect public health. They say the unvaccinated are putting society at risk. They are taking away freedom to choose because the general welfare weighs more to them.

We argue that both general welfare and freedom of choice can be served if only authorities are better informed and motivated. Unfortunately they are misinformed when they claim that the unvaccinated are infected. They are misinformed when they say that the vaccinated are negative for Covid. They also misinform people when they do not admit that Covid vaccines at this time are under Emergency Use Authorization, another term for experimental. They misinform the taxpayer when they say the vaccines are for free. While some are donated, a huge lot of them are purchased from pharmaceutical companies using people’s taxes. They misinform the people when they say that vaccination, not Covid testing, identifies who spread the virus and who do not. They misinform when they say Covid testing cannot be freely done on our people.

Those who advocate mandatory vaccination are motivated by profit! We have evidence to show that LGU officials are being promised millions in reward if their constituents are 100% vaccinated. They are not different from Judas Iscariot who received 30 pieces of silver. The LGU officials will receive P1M but their constituents will risk their lives by taking chances with side effects like blood clotting, myocarditis, pericarditis, among others. They misinform the people when they claim that the side effects are only mild to moderate like “pain, redness, itchiness or swelling at the injection site (which may last a few hours); fever; feeling of weakness or fatigue; headache; dizziness; diarrhea; or nausea.” (https://doh.gov.ph/faqs/vaccines).

When authorities take away freedom of choice in the name of good, they are actually motivated by the desire for control. Power obtained when people gave consent through exercise of freedom of choice now wants to grow bigger by depriving the same people of the same freedom. A little taste of power begets gluttony for more power.

If authorities are better informed and motivated they could have managed the pandemic well. They could have promoted for example the taking of vitamins C and D which are very cheap. However, the desire for profit at the expense of the people’s misery drives them to crave for mandatory vaccination which takes a heavy toll on the national budget. Pharmaceutical companies will not earn from cheap vitamins but they reap $1000 per second from the vaccines!

There is a way to manage this pandemic by balancing public health and freedom of choice. Only idiots motivated by profit and drunk with power are not able to see that!

 Vaccination Yes But Not Mandatory

 

We can appreciate the value of literature when it offers us insights towards a solution to a difficult problem.

There is a Procrustes in everyone who argues that vaccines should be mandatory. We do not argue against vaccination. We argue against mandatory vaccination. Medicine and law do not favor their argument.

 

First, we take up the medical reason against mandatory vaccination.

 

Scientific fact says: not all the 7.9 billion people now on earth are the same – at least bodily. There is a commonality but there are also unique qualities. Majority of homo sapiens can eat peanut anytime but there are people who can die if ever a gram of the bean is ingested. Most people take paracetamol for pain and fever. My daughter develops rashes when she takes it. Many Filipinos love to eat tilapia but one friend of mine is allergic to that fish.

The same observation is seen with many substances which are foreign to the human body and cause harm rather than the intended good. The recently rolled out Covid vaccines are the latest examples. In Norway, health authorities stopped the injection of Pfizer vaccines among the elderly.

Norwegian officials said 23 people had died in the country a short time after receiving their first dose of the vaccine. Of those deaths, 13 have been autopsied, with the results suggesting that common side effects may have contributed to severe reactions in frail, elderly people, according to the Norwegian Medicines Agency.

 

“For those with the most severe frailty, even relatively mild vaccine side effects can have serious consequences,” the Norwegian Institute of Public Health said. “For those who have a very short remaining life span anyway, the benefit of the vaccine may be marginal or irrelevant.”

That information is dated January 15, 2021 and many developments have taken place since then about the virus and the vaccines. Still, the Procrustean lesson holds: Not every vaccine is for everybody every time.

 

The motto of every doctor is: First do no harm. The valid and confirmed reports of serious adverse effects (SAEs) from vaccines should make every healthcare worker press the alarm button. SAEs should not surprise us because the Covid vaccines are at this time “experimental.”

 

Even under Philippine law the experimental character of Covid vaccines at this time is acknowledged:

Section 2 Declaration of Policy. – It is hereby declared the policy of the State to adopt an integrated approach to health development which shall endeavor to make essential social services available to all people at an affordable cost. For this reason, the State shall undertake a COVID-19 Vaccination Program with the following objectives:

(c) Recognize the experimental nature of COVID-19 vaccines available in the market and compensate any serious adverse effects (SAEs) arising from the use of COVID-19 vaccine, experienced by people inoculated through the COVID-19 Vaccination Program;

 

Second, we take up the legal reason against mandatory vaccination.

 

Authorities who repeatedly insinuate at making vaccination mandatory are running the risks of going afoul with the law and causing serious adverse effects on those who medically cannot take the vaccines.

 

Again, RA 11525 is very clear on this matter:

 

Section 12. COVID-19 Vaccine Card. - Subject to the provisions of Republic Act No. 10173 or the "Data Privacy Act of 2012", the DOH shall issue a vaccine card to all persons vaccinated. . .

Provided, further, That the vaccine cards shall not be considered as an additional mandatory requirement for educational, employment and other similar government transaction purposes.

Vaccination is not the problem. Mandating it is. I will gladly take a vaccine against measles, rubella, diphtheria, polio, etc. because these have many years of testing and experience behind them. Not Covid vaccines. There is an argument that we should take a Covid vaccine without fear because we eat Big Mac without fear even though we do not know how it is made. This argument falls flat. We have eaten tons of Big Macs before and we know they are safe. This is the first time we are offered Covid vaccines and their safety is not yet totally assured by medical science at this time. We can sue McDonalds if we are harmed by Big Mac. We cannot sue Pfizer or anyone behind the vaccine rollout. RA 11525 is very clear:

Section 8. Immunity from Liability. - Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, public officials and employees, contractors, manufacturers, volunteers, and representatives of duly authorized private entities who are duly authorized to carry out and are actually carrying out the COVID-19 Vaccination Program shall be immune from suit and liability under Philippine laws with respect to all claims arising out of, related to, or resulting from the administration or use of a COVID-19 vaccine under the COVID-19 Vaccination Program except arising from willful misconduct and gross negligence. Personally, I can attest to the fact that a vaccinated person can still be infected and infect others. RA 11525 Section 12 confirms such fact:

Individuals vaccinated against COVID-19 as indicated in the vaccine card shall not be considered immune from COVID-19, unless otherwise declared by the DOH based on reliable scientific evidence and consensus.

An electrical engineer friend of mine died in August of blood clot in the brain. He was vaccinated with AstraZeneca in July according to his son. Blood clotting is one SAE mentioned in the waiver signed by vaccinees.

 

A popular Albay broadcaster in the 1980s died of Covid in August. His wife confirmed that he was vaccinated. A former student died of Covid too. He was injected with Sinovac on June 26, developed symptoms on July 3 and died on July 13.

 

CNN announced on October 19, 2021 the death of Gen. Collin Powell from complications of Covid-19. He was vaccinated.

 

There is an obvious compromise between the two positions: Those who cannot take the vaccines for one reason or another can be obliged to submit a certificate of negative test result for Covid. It would be inconvenient for the unvaccinated but that is not the problem of the pro-mandate camp. Testing may be expensive but cost can be reduced. If government can make the vaccines free of charge, why not testing? It is done in developed countries at least. By engaging software applications, the possibility of faking the test result can be eliminated.

 

Again personally, I am more at ease being in a room with someone certified to be negative for Covid than with another who is vaccinated. The negative cannot infect me but the vaccinated can.

 

So there is a happy trade-off in this controversy.

By the grace of God we survived Covid!

 

Fact 1: October 18 Monday morning - I got exposed to someone who at the time was recovering from his own infection. He is vaccinated.

Fact 2: October 20 Wednesday evening - I had headache, slight fever, sore throat and cough. I took acetaminophen. The headache and fever vanished.

Fact 3: October 23 Saturday afternoon - My second daughter had headache. I gave her Dolan and isolated her in the bedroom.

Fact 4: October 23 evening - I lost sense of smell. I could not smell the handwashing soap. I placed dishwashing paste right under my nose and I could not smell a thing; not even dog or cat poop beside me, not Efficascent Oil, not alcohol. Prior to infection I could smell them five (5) meters away. I immediately isolated myself in the living room. The rest of my children stayed in the kitchen because there they could have immediate access to food and hand it over to us.

I informed my niece who is a doctor and eldest sister who is a nurse. They gave their medical advice. I sent a PM to my cousin Noel and asked for information. He is a Covid survivor himself back in March-April. He asked if I wanted to take Ivermectin. I said yes.

Fact 5: October 24 Sunday morning - My wife showed symptoms too. She also lost her sense of smell and had nausea. The Ivermectin promised by my cousin Noel arrived.

I increased my dose of vitamin C from the pre-infection 250 mg/day to 300 mg every 4 hours. I took zinc tablet every day. When the coughing ensued, I inhaled steam. My wife also increased her vitamin C intake to 1000 mg per day and inhaled steam. All throughout this experience our oxygen saturation remained at 97-99%. Our sense of taste did not vanish but I could feel a hot sensation in my tongue and palate after every meal.

All my three (3) daughters were relatively safe. My second daughter’s headache vanished so I allowed her to stay with the other two. My youngest sneezed one time but that was all. My eldest had headache but Biogesic solved it. I reminded them to take vitamin C everyday.

Fact 6: October 28 Thursday to 30 Saturday - My headache returned.

Fact 7: October 31 Sunday morning - My headache was gone. My wife and I got better but cough was still there and sense of smell was still zero. We continued with our treatment. Isolation was still in place.

Fact 8: November 6 - Our symptoms were gone, except for the loss of the sense of smell. There was occasional cough but only to clear our throats. I allowed my children to return to the bedroom. Isolation was lifted.

Fact 9: November 8 - We could again smell food in the kitchen, soap and pet poop.

Fact 10: November 9 - We declared victory over Covid. Still, we observe the protocols and never let our guard down.

Fact 11: I am not vaccinated!

 

I share this experience in the hope that it might help others survive too, by the grace of God!

Why Vaccination Cannot be Mandatory

 

If you will sacrifice the few in order to save the many, then that is immoral. Ask the few to volunteer and that would be fine! To coerce them betrays the authority’s pledge to protect everyone under the law. Not even God, who knows everything, coerces us. He gives us the choice through freewill.

You cannot ram even the most delicious food down the throat of anyone.

But the vaccines are not at par with delicious food. Their safety is not proven yet unlike that of the previous vaccines for example for measles, polio and diphtheria. The FDA states in its article titled “Emergency Use for Vaccines Explained”

An Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) is a mechanism to facilitate the availability and use of medical countermeasures, including vaccines, during public health emergencies, such as the current COVID-19 pandemic. Under an EUA, FDA may allow the use of unapproved medical products, or unapproved uses of approved medical products in an emergency to diagnose, treat, or prevent serious or life-threatening diseases or conditions when certain statutory criteria have been met, including that there are no adequate, approved, and available alternatives. Taking into consideration input from the FDA, manufacturers decide whether and when to submit an EUA request to FDA.

Once submitted, FDA will evaluate an EUA request and determine whether the relevant statutory criteria are met, taking into account the totality of the scientific evidence about the vaccine that is available to FDA.

Are the COVID-19 vaccines rigorously tested?

Yes. Clinical trials are evaluating investigational COVID-19 vaccines in tens of thousands of study participants to generate the scientific data and other information needed by FDA to determine safety and effectiveness. These clinical trials are being conducted according to the rigorous standards set forth by the FDA.

Initially, in phase 1, the vaccine is given to a small number of generally healthy people to assess its safety at increasing doses and to gain early information about how well the vaccine works to induce an immune response in people. In the absence of safety concerns from phase 1 studies, phase 2 studies include more people, where various dosages are tested on hundreds of people with typically varying health statuses and from different demographic groups, in randomized-controlled studies. These studies provide additional safety information on common short-term side effects and risks, examine the relationship between the dose administered and the immune response, and may provide initial information regarding the effectiveness of the vaccine. In phase 3, the vaccine is generally administered to thousands of people in randomized, controlled studies involving broad demographic groups (i.e., the population intended for use of the vaccine) and generates critical information on effectiveness and additional important safety data. This phase provides additional information about the immune response in people who receive the vaccine compared to those who receive a control, such as a placebo.

What are the plans for continued monitoring of COVID-19 vaccines authorized by FDA for emergency use?

FDA expects vaccine manufacturers to include in their EUA requests a plan for active follow-up for safety, including deaths, hospitalizations, and other serious or clinically significant adverse events, among individuals who receive the vaccine under an EUA, to inform ongoing benefit-risk determinations to support continuation of the EUA.

FDA also expects manufacturers who receive an EUA to continue their clinical trials to obtain additional safety and effectiveness information and pursue licensure (approval).

Post-authorization vaccine safety monitoring is a federal government responsibility shared primarily by FDA and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), along with other agencies involved in healthcare delivery. Post-authorization safety monitoring during the COVID-19 pandemic vaccination program will aim to continuously monitor the safety of COVID-19 vaccines to rapidly detect safety problems if they exist. There will be multiple, complementary systems in place with validated analytic methods that can rapidly detect signals for possible vaccine safety problems. The U.S. government has a well-established post-authorization/post-approval vaccine safety monitoring infrastructure that will be scaled up to meet the needs of a large-scale COVID-19 vaccination program. The U.S. government – in partnership with health systems, academic centers, and private sector partners – will use multiple existing vaccine safety monitoring systems to monitor COVID-19 vaccines in the post-authorization/approval period. Some of these systems are the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), the Vaccine Safety Datalink (VSD), the Biologics Effectiveness and Safety (BEST) Initiative, and Medicare claims data.

How will vaccine recipients be informed about the benefits and risks of any vaccine that receives an EUA?

FDA must ensure that recipients of the vaccine under an EUA are informed, to the extent practicable given the applicable circumstances, that FDA has authorized the emergency use of the vaccine, of the known and potential benefits and risks, the extent to which such benefits and risks are unknown, that they have the option to accept or refuse the vaccine, and of any available alternatives to the product. I lengthily quote the US FDA in order to avoid any wrong context.

There is also the false notion even among authorities that vaccination protects other people around a vaccinated person. This was claimed by CHED Chairman Prospero De Vera during a Zoom forum on October 1, 2021 from 9 am to 12 noon. I dare say this is wrong because according to medical science a vaccine elicits a response from the immune system of the vaccinated, not the persons surrounding him. Moreover, the vaccinated carries the virus with him. Therefore he can transmit it to persons around him. The unvaccinated has the same potential to infect others. It is down right wrong to think that only the latter can spread the virus. No wonder, after the vaccines were rolled out the daily increase in cases reached as high as 26,000 while it ranged between 5,000 and 10,000 before.

Another evidence that vaccines do not protect people around the vaccinated is RA 11525 Section 12 one of whose paragraphs reads:

Individuals vaccinated against Covid-19 as indicated in the vaccine card shall not be considered immune from Covid-19, unless otherwise declared by the DOH based on reliable scientific evidence and consensus.

When something is made mandatory, the mandating authority must bear responsibility for any consequence. In RA 11525, such responsibility is absent:

When Marcos declared martial law, he claimed to save the republic and ended up violating human rights. His defenders today cite the infrastructure projects he implemented but fail to mention the kickbacks he and his cronies pocketed and how he amassed billons of dollars deposited in Swiss banks.

Today ISIS, Al Qaeda and the Taliban are ruthlessly killing people in the name of Allah.

Today, Facebook is censoring posts and comments in the guise of community standards. If you post or comment against the experimental vaccines FB is quick to ban you. Only you can see it. Worse, you can be banned for 24 hours or 30 days.

So much evil has been committed in the guise of good. Facebook should be careful it does not fall into the same category as evildoers. We understand FB took this route after it was sued or threatened with suits for one reason or another. However, it should not veer towards the extreme of censorship at the expense of freedom of expression. It is a tricky balancing act, yes, but it comes as the price of power and privilege. The billions of FB users make the platform powerful. They are the reason advertisers flock and give it also billions in revenue. It should be watchful ever not to commit evil against those whose role is to cast light on otherwise dark truths that cause inconvenience to powers that be. Facebook was praised as a great equalizer of the playing field. Now, if it takes actions that tilt the field in favor of the mighty then it will turn its back on its own power base.

If FB allows you to post what you ate a while ago or the latest shot of your face why can it not tolerate an expression that comes from your heart and mind? No pun intended but the face is often less important than the book.

You cannot criticize the host when you are a guest in his house. This is not a criticism. This is a friendly advice. I am doing so as civilly as I should. The host should not take it against a guest who cautions him about a potential or actual wrong. After all, the Facebook house is not just made of walls and columns. It is built on the strong foundation of support by its guests.
